Michigan Youth Event

The Michigan Youth Event is March 7-9, 2008 at Camp Talahi. Cost will be $100 per person. The theme is "Come, to the Party!" Everyone is welcome to join with UCC youth grades 7-12 for fun activities, workshops and worship.

The event will begin at 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 7 with pizza and pop and end following worship on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.

Our keynote speaker will be DaVita McCallister. The praise band Crosswords from First Congregational Church Rochester will be leading our worship and music.

Workshops will include

 Invitations: Who is invited?

 Decorations:  Get creative with Arts and Crafts

 Activities: Outdoor Games for groups

Entertainment: Skits, Music and Poetry

Documentation: A creative video workshop.

We are also looking for youth to help plan and lead worship, share MP3 music for the Party on Saturday night.

Each youth group will need to bring an adult advisor both male and female matching the composition of the group. Gather your group together and "Come to the Party!"

VISION is partnering with several churches in the area to offer the Westar Institute Jesus Seminar March 28-29, 2008 at Peoples Church of East Lansing, 200 W. Grand River, East Lansing. 

Guest Speakers

Bernard Brandon Scott (Ph.D., Vanderbilt University) is the Darbeth Distinguished Professor of New Testament at the Philips Theological Seminary, tulsa, OK.  He is the author of several books, including Hear Then the Parable (1989) and Re-Imagine the World (2002) , and editor of Jesus Reconsidered (2007).

Jarmo Tarkki (Ph.D., University of Helsinki) is Senior Pastor at Bethania Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Solvang, California.  he is Adunct Professor of Theology at California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, a Teaching Fellow in Philosophical Theology at the pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkely, and the author of numerous books and articles.

The theme is The Jesus in the First and Twenty-first Centuries
